Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Whether you’re a landlord with a few flats, a facilities manager looking after commercial premises, or a homeowner trying to understand building safety, knowing what fire door certification is and why it matters can save lives and keep you on the right side of the law.
At its core, fire door certification is about proof. It’s the documentation that shows a fire door has been designed, tested, manufactured, installed, and maintained to meet UK fire door regulations. Without proper certification, you can’t be sure your doors will do their job in the event of a fire. And in the eyes of the law, you might not be compliant either.
Fire doors are a critical part of any passive fire protection system, but for a fire door to perform as intended, everything has to be right: the door itself, the frame, the hinges, the seals, the closer, and the installation. That’s where certification comes in.
The importance of fire doors has never been clearer. Following major incidents and the introduction of the Building Safety Act, new fire door regulations have tightened up the rules around building safety, particularly in residential buildings and public buildings. Building owners and the responsible person now have stronger legal obligations to ensure their doors are up to standard – and that means having the relevant information and documentation to prove it.

Fire Doors Complete provides a range of certification and training services designed to help installers, inspectors, building owners, and facilities managers meet fire door regulations and stay compliant.
One of the key ways we support fire door safety is through certified training courses. All training is delivered in partnership with FireQual, a specialist certification body for the fire protection industry. When delegates complete one of our UK fire door training courses, they receive a FireQual certificate that’s valid for five years.
We offer training in:
We also deliver the BWF Fire Door Installation Awareness Course, a two-day programme developed with the British Woodworking Federation and accredited by NOCN. This course is widely recognised across the construction and joinery industries.
All of these courses are designed to help create a competent person, someone who understands fire door safety, building regulations, and the legal requirements that apply to residential buildings, commercial premises, and public buildings alike.

Fire Doors Complete also provides professional fire door inspection services across the UK. Our inspectors are trained, experienced, and equipped to assess whether your doors meet current safety standards. We produce clear, jargon-free reports that tell you what’s working and what needs attention.
Our inspections cover communal areas, escape routes, and any other locations where certified fire doors are required. We check that doors are in good working order, that all components are functioning correctly, and that the installation meets the specifications set out in building regulations and Approved Document B.

If you’re a building owner, landlord, or responsible person, keeping up with fire door regulations can feel like a moving target. The rules are getting stricter, enforcement is more rigorous, and the consequences of getting it wrong are serious.
Fire Doors Complete takes the stress out of compliance. Whether you need fire door training for your team, regular inspections to stay on top of fire door maintenance, or consultancy to help with specification and installation, we’re here to support you.
We work across all sectors, from housing associations to schools, hospitals, care homes, and commercial premises. Our approach is always practical, straightforward, and focused on what really matters: keeping people safe.

Fire door certification is proof that a fire door has been tested and manufactured to meet UK fire safety standards. The requirements of this certification must be followed when installing and maintaining fire doors, and throughout the life span of the doors to ensure they are fit for purpose when required in a fire situation.
Anyone responsible for a building with fire doors, including landlords, building owners, facilities managers, and employers, should ensure their doors are certified and compliant. This applies to residential buildings, commercial premises, and public buildings. If you’re the responsible person under fire safety law, it’s your duty to ensure certification is in place and complied with.
Certified fire doors should have a label or plug on the door or frame showing the manufacturer, fire rating, and certification details. For installed doors, you should also have documentation from the installer confirming the door was installed correctly.
