A fire door that has been poorly installed can fail to provide the necessary protection when it is needed most, putting lives at risk and leaving building owners facing serious liability. Yet across the UK, too many fire doors are installed incorrectly, often by tradespeople who haven’t received the appropriate level of training required.

Fire door installation courses exist to bridge that gap. They give installers, contractors, and site managers the specialist knowledge they need to install compliant fire doors that will work as expected when required. Whether you are already working with doors or looking to expand your skills, correct fire door training will help you fulfil the obligations of the Fire Safety Order (FSO).

Since the Grenfell tragedy, responsible persons are now much more aware of their duties under the FSO. Installers, fabricators, and maintainers are expected to demonstrate an acceptable level of competence for the work they carry out. Housing, healthcare, education, and commercial sectors all require contractors to have suitable proof of competency before they are allowed anywhere near a fire door installation.

This is not about ticking boxes. It is about ensuring that every fire door installed in this country meets UK standards, is installed using manufacturers evidence of fire performance and performs under very strict conditions. A fire door installation course teaches you the installation of fire doors from the ground up – covering fire door installation theory, what practical skills are required and how to avoid the typical faults that lead to early failure in a fire situation.

For contractors, this training is essential. For site managers and facilities teams, it provides the confidence that work is being done correctly and compliantly. For fire door technicians looking to build their reputation, formal fire door training is no longer an option.

Timber Fire Doors: Installation Training Module

This installation training course is aimed at tradespeople who already have practical skills in door installations but need to understand the regulations and requirements specific to timber-based fire doors. It covers both new and existing properties, and is suitable for anyone working in construction, joinery.

The course includes fire door installation theory, guidance on building regulations, and detailed instruction on how to install fire doors compliantly. You will learn about frames, gaps, seals, hinges, closers, and hardware – all the elements that must come together to create a compliant fire door installation. Upon successful completion of the course, delegates receive FireQual certification which is then valid for five years.

Timber Fire Doors: Maintenance Training Module

Fire door maintenance is equally as important as installation. This course is for contractors and technicians who need to know how to repair and maintain fire doors in line with UK fire door standards. You will learn how to identify problems, carry out safe repairs, and ensure doors remain in good working order throughout their working lifespan.

As with the installation module, this course provides a FireQual certification, valid for 5 years and is designed for people who already understand doors but need specialist support to work confidently with fire doors.
