Fire Door Installation Training
We're here to support fire door installers and help them to improve. That's why we offer two different training courses for installers, depending on their level of experience.
- Practical Installation Course for Timber-Based Fire Doors - This is a hands-on, comprehensive course on how to install a fire door so that it meets UK building regulation standards. It's intended for people looking to learn or improve on their installation skills.
- Installation Training Module - This is more intended for those who already have the necessary practical installation skills, but require more knowledge around the regulations for timber-based fire doors. Information on this course will apply to both existing and new build properties
Successful delegates will receive a Firequal-approved certificate upon finishing the course, which is valid for 5 years. Training can be conducted:
- Remotely, at your home or workplace
- In person, at our training centre in Queniborough, near Leicester
- In person, with our team coming to your workplace

Why do I need fire door training?
Since the Grenfell tragedy, the UK government has introduced new legislation on how fire doors are installed and maintained. However, there are also new laws concerning the competency requirements for installers. Housing, healthcare and education are all sectors that demand their fire door installers to have suitable qualifications. Without these qualifications, installers may face government fines, or struggle to find work.
Upon completing one of our fire door training courses, each delegate will receive a Firequal-approved certificate of achievement, which is valid for 5 years.

Timber Fire Doors: Installation Training Module
This training package is intended for those who already have practical fire door installation skills, but require more information about the regulations surrounding timber-based fire doors. The training applies to both new and existing properties.

Timber Fire Doors: Maintenance Training Module
This training package is designed for those who require more information about how to properly maintain and repair fire doors in accordance with UK regulations. Delegates will be able to confidently comply with legislation surrounding timber-based fire doors.
- Who it’s for: Refurbishment Contractors, Fabric Engineers, Maintenance Teams, Carpenters & Joiners
- Format: In-person or remote course, optional
- What you get: Certificate of achievement, valid for 5 years
- Price: £250-400 per person, depending on the number of applicants you have
Timber Fire Doors: Awareness Training Module
This training package is designed for those who have a caretaker role at a building. These delegates do not need to have technical fire door knowledge and skills, but will learn how to spot defects in fire doors and report them to the building manager.
- Who it’s for: Contractors, Fabric Engineers, Caretakers, Maintenance Teams, Carpenters & Joiners
- Format: In-person or remote course, optional
- What you get: Certificate of achievement, valid for 5 years
- Price: £150-250 per person, depending on the number of applicants you have
Timber Fire Doors: Inspection Training Module
This training package is designed for those who inspect fire doors for their clients. Candidates are expected to have prior knowledge of timber doors and/or building safety. The course will equip delegates with the skills and knowledge to become professional fire door inspectors.
- Who it’s for: Fire door inspectors
- Format: This course is a hybrid of remote learning and practical training and assessment. Candidates must complete a theory based examination before taking the practical fire door inspection assessment.
- What you get: Certificate of achievement, valid for 5 years
- Price: £1100-1200 per person, depending on the number of applicants you have
BWF Fire Door Installation Awareness: Two-Day Course
This course promotes awareness of appropriate fire door installation to construction and manufacturing industries. The course has been developed in collaboration between the National Open College Network (NOCN) and the British Woodworking Federation.
- Who it’s for: Businesses in the construction and manufacturing industries
- Format: In-person only
- What you get: Certificate of achievement
- Price: £300-700 per person, depending on the number of applicants you have
Practical Installation Course for Timber-Based Fire Doors
This is a hands-on practical assessment and provides an opportunity for those that have already attained the theory-based installation certificate to prove that they can correctly install a working timber-based fire door assembly.
- Who it’s for: Contractors, Fabric Engineers, Maintenance Teams, Carpenters & Joiners
- Format: In-person only
- What you get: Certificate of achievement
- Price: £1000

Prior to beginning your training course, you will receive a training pack, including a textbook, USB stick and self-test. Delegates who successfully complete any of these courses will receive a Firequal-approved certificate that is valid for 5 years.
